Peterborough City Council elections take place on Thursday, May 1 2008. Politics Reporter Jonny Muir will speak to all 70 candidates and ask them what they stand for and why they deserve your vote.
Susan Lovelock (Liberal)Susan Lovelock, of Barrowfield, Welland, is the chairman of the governors at Newark Hill Primary School and is an active charity fund-raiser for Magpas and the air ambulance.
She said: "What concerns me m
ost in the ward, which I hope to be in charge of, is the area around the Chadburn Centre.
"Pensioners are scared to walk to and from the centre because they fear for their safety.
"The Chadburn Centre needs refurbishment and a couple of pubs should be re-opened and used as community centres.
"My priorities are stopping litter and graffiti and keeping the thugs in tow. I'd also ensure that police patrol our streets."
David Day (Conservative)
BORN in Peterborough, David Day, of Donaldson Drive, Paston, was educated at Walton infant, junior and senior schools.
His mother is Cllr Sue Day, one of three members who currently represent the Paston ward, and his grandfather is George Simons, a one-time Stanground councillor.
He said: "As a resident of Paston, I want to better things in the community. Crime reduction, litter and lighting for all footpaths and underpasses so residents can feel safe in their area is a priority.
"I would like to continue the work started by the Conservatives in Paston. The job of a councillor is to act as the link between the council and the people. It's very important everybody in our area feels safe."
Colin Caborn (Labour)COLIN Caborn is bidding to return to Peterborough City Council after a one-year absence following a 256-vote defeat last year.
In a 12-year political career, Mr Caborn, of Abbey Road, Walton, represented Paston, Walton and Werrington North.
In July 2007, Mr Caborn, along with other former councillors, was honoured for his long service.
As a city councillor, Mr Caborn campaigned for an increased police presence in Paston and called for better advice to people with mental health problems and the elderly on fire hazards.
He said: "I'm standing again to defend the Labour seat of my good friend Cllr John Bleakney. I will carry on as before, representing Paston to the best of my ability.
"I will work with local groups and residents' associations to ensure standards are maintained."
