Peterborough City Council elections take place on Thursday, May 1 2008. Politics Reporter Jonny Muir will speak to all 70 candidates and ask them what they stand for and why they deserve your vote.
Fiona Radic (Green)FIONA Radic, of King's Gardens, joined the Green Party last year.
She said: "I joined because the city seemed to be losing its way and was in danger of losing far too much of its built heritage and its wonderful green spaces.
"It was in danger of getting one, two or even three mass burn waste plants. None of these problems have gone over the past year, even as we strive to attain environment capital status.
"If we are to burn our waste, we need to know who will run what and how, and what it will cost.
"The Green Party wants the city to remain an attractive and healthy place to live and bring up families. We want a wider cultural base for the city and more respect for our past and our heritage."
Abdul Hamid (Liberal Democrat)ABDUL Hamid has lived in Peterborough for 36 years and is married with four children.
He runs his own business supplying linen and laundry services to local restaurants.
Mr Hamid, chairs a charity he founded, which looks after more than 100 disabled young people in his former home region of Kashmir.
Mr Hamid stood for election in East ward in 2004 and in Park ward last year, claiming just 83 votes out of 2,621 cast.
He said: "If elected, I would improve the appearance of green areas and do my best for the residents who live in the ward.
"I would also look to improve the state of pavements to ensure they are accessible for disabled people.
John Peach (Conservative)JOHN Peach, of Broadway, has been the leader of Peterborough City Council since April 2006.
As leader, Cllr Peach has pegged the last two council tax rises to 1.4 per cent.
He said: "I live in the ward and have done for most of my life. Along with my Conservative colleagues, I have been producing your 12-page Common Sense newsletter for the last 20 years. I have dealt with many planning issues, environmental concerns, including graffiti, dumped cars and rubbish.
"I have campaigned for better street cleaning and from this month all streets in Park ward will be cleaned every six weeks and many streets every four weeks.
"Please give me your support, so I can continue to represent the interests of Park ward residents in our local area."
