Peterborough City Council elections take place on Thursday, May 1 2008. Politics Reporter Jonny Muir will speak to all 70 candidates and ask them what they stand for and why they deserve your vote.
Joan Wilkinson (Green)BORN in Lancashire, Joan Wilkinson emigrated to the San Francisco Bay area in 1967.
When two oil tankers collided off the Golden Gate Bridge, Ms Wilkinson, of Linnet, Orton Wistow, volunteered to help clean the birds and monitor the slick.
She said: "I returned to the UK and in 1991 chose to settle in Peterborough. Among the first things I bought when I arrived were compost bins.
"I have been using cloth shopping bags and re-using my plastic bags for 20 years. I have also worked to oppose developments, like the IKEA distribution centre." next to Fletton Lake. I have recently been appointed a recorder of species."
Alan Fromm (UK Independence Party)Alan Fromm is a minister, former martial arts instructor and sports centre coach, while he has been a member of local Government committees in Islington, London.
Mr Fromm, of Wingfield, Orton Goldhay, said: "I would like to see the UK withdraw from the European Union and build its own free trade.
"I believe there should be more money for pensioners and the creation of more jobs.
"The council is doing a marvellous job of cleaning up litter and graffiti, but I believe more could be done.
"I would also like to see a more extensive police force seen working in the community."
Pam Winslade (Conservative)RAISED in Northampton, Pam Winslade spent many years working for civilian and military welfare service associations.
Prior to her election in 2004, Cllr Winslade, of Wingfield, Orton Goldhay, was a parish councillor.
She said: "Whatever the work in the council chamber, there is more in the ward – damage to property, fences, cars, windows and plants, as well as break-ins.
"I will also look to tackle problems including Malborne foot and cycle bridge and rat-running on Malborne Way, and ensuring the £10,000 community leadership fund is effectively spent."
Peter Heinrich (Labour)AN active trade unionist, Peter Heinrich has been on secondment with the Public and Commercial Services Union for the last three years.
Mr Heinrich, of Bringhurst, Orton Goldhay, sits on the committee of Goldhay Horseshoe Residents Association.
He said: "If elected, my priorities would be better public transportation, community services and tackling anti-social behaviour.
"The bus service could be improved further by sticking to the timetable and by running half-hourly evening services until midnight, with a conductor on board."
