Jonny Muir
Meet the candidates standing in the Glinton and Wittering wards:
Karen How (Green)
MUSIC teacher Karen How, of Huntingdon, has previously fought elections in her home town and Derbyshire.

She said: "The Greens strongly oppose current attempts to build on greenbelt land to the north of Peterborough.

"Greens appreciate the increase in demand for housing in the city but would press for new developments to be focussed first on brownfield sites close to the city centre.

"I am also concerned by the level of financial cutbacks now threatening a range of local civil service jobs in Peterborough.

"I would push for public services able to benefit the general public and the local economy. A decent level of service is dependent upon a properly funded local Government workforce."

Johanna Potter (Independent)
CAR sales executive Johanna Potter, of Helpston Road, Glinton, is billing herself as a "no to mass housing candidate".

She said: "When John Prescott declared war on traditionally Conservative villages, by ordering that England's green and pleasant land be concreted over for housing, the Conservatives should have stood up to him.

"In Peterborough, they decided on thousands more homes without any regard for the opinion of the local people who voted them into power.

"When villagers are up in arms over plans for more housing on their doorstep, their elected representatives should be leading the fight against the plans, not sitting in the town hall working on plans for even more houses.

"Northborough residents have proved that people power can see off the developers. Now it's up to the people of Castor and Glinton to make their voices heard."

John Holdich says: "I am ... attending meetings to learn what must be done to avoid growth spoiling our surrounding villages."
If there is any shred of integrity behind what he says, why has he steadfastly and continually refused to meet with the North Peterborough Villages Association who are protesting against the threat of the growth spoiling the villages?

I like what both the Green Party and the Independent candidate are standing for and I just hope that they do not split the vote. If only they worked on a joint approach, we might see our villages remain as villages and not fear the possibiltiy of them becoming small townships.
To be a good judge and a wise man, you must listening to all sides of a debate before you can come to a conclusion, those who do not listen will fall foul of their own arrongance.

John Holdich was a good councillor in his day but he's really let the locals down over the last year or two with his stance over the North Werrington Development.
It's time for a change!

John Holdich has given good service over the years, but he has lost the plot when it comes to development proposals like North Werrington. He seems to sit on the fence rather than clearly state what he is for or against, and in the background you wonder what deals or trade-offs are being done - not necessarily bad things, but it is not transparent, so how can you have trust in him?
