Peterborough City Council elections take place on Thursday, May 1 2008. Politics Reporter Jonny Muir will speak to all 70 candidates and ask them what they stand for and why they deserve your vote.
Fletton: Fran Benton (Conservative)Former lifeguard and marathon runner Fran Benton is standing for election for the first time.
Mrs Benton, of Oundle Road, Woodston, started local day nursery Bundles of Fun in 1993, and opened
Inner Beauty – a holistic and beauty therapy studio – in 2007.
A mother of four, Mrs Benton has served on the governing bodies of two local schools.
She said: "If elected, I will strive to restore some of the Fletton and Woodston area's past glories. This area will be one of the main routes to the South Bank development, so it should look inviting, clean and safe, as it once did.
"I will fight to get more money for the community and I support
imaginative initiatives such as the community leadership fund, which has already made it possible for local councillors to invest in our community centres and children.
"With a career rooted in business, I also favour the Conservative administration's policy of restricting increases in council tax by searching for greater efficiencies."
Fletton: Tina Scrine (Labour)Tina Scrine, an accountant for the Environment Agency, has lived in Peterborough for 36 years, three of which were spent as a city councillor.
Miss Scrine, who lives in Oundle Road, Woodston, is the secretary of South Grove Community Centre and the treasurer of the Stanground, Fletton and Woodston Community Partnership.
She said: "I will endeavour to protect green space and improve the local environment, as well as campaign to stop high-rise developments in our neighbourhood.
"I want benefits for local residents, not just the developers. I will campaign for rented housing that is affordable and well maintained.
"I will work with the police and other officials in order to make our community a safer place, and I would support a crackdown on anti-social behaviour, so that our open spaces can be used and enjoyed by the rest of the community.
"I regularly attend local police meetings, where I participate in agreeing the objectives for officers to work on in the following three months in our area."
