Barnack: Martin Bamford (Green)
Martin Bamford, of Orchard Road, Stamford, is standing as a Green Party candidate for the first time.

He said: "I hope people in Barnack and its surrounding villages will vote Green in order to sho
w support for improved public transport, for traditional and sustainable farming and to protect local services such as post offices.

"This Government has done for the post office network what Beeching did for the railways. The rest of the rural economy hasn't fared much better.

"As a Green Party councillor, I would support local services, including schools and community centres. I would also strive to ensure that planning decisions support communities and the local economy in an environmentally sustainable manner.

"We have many assets to be proud of in this area, from the Hills and Holes nature reserve, in Barnack, to the threatened Brewery Tap in the centre of Peterborough. As councillor for Barnack I would seek to protect them all."

Barnack: David Over (Conservative)
A CITY councillor since 1996, David Over is head of religious education at Sawtry College.

Cllr Over, of Sapperton, Werrington, has been a primary and secondary school governor and a visiting inspector of police stations.

He said: "I will fight to save our village way of life and I am determined to protect the countryside for villagers and visitors alike from inappropriate development.

"In particular, I am totally opposed to any large housing development in a ward which has been identified as an area of minimum development.

"Being a councillor in a rural ward involves working closely with six parish councils and a variety of other groups.

"Partnership is the key to successful outcomes in areas such as planning, speeding, roads, play areas and policing.

"Policing has significantly improved with a new police house in
Barnack and an officer and community support officer who provide a regular presence in the area."
