THE Support Staff Award was a new category this year that recognises the efforts of staff who dedicate themselves to supporting their school, whether this is through admin or cleaning.
Peter Homer won the award for taking pride in keeping Braybrook Primary School in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough shipshape.

The 64-year-old from Paston said: "It is absolutely wonderful, I am still shaking. At first I thought that everyone was playing a joke with me and I hadn't really been nominated.

"I will be retiring at Christmas so this is just a brilliant way to leave.

"I have had a wonderful evening – one that I will never forget."

The caretaker keeps the school wonderfully clean as well as looking after everybody as they come into the school.

He is best known for the continuous smile that sits on his face. Mandy Nicholas from Orton Longueville School and Gwen Shepard from Southfields Junior School were highly commended in the judges' comments.
