Influences: James Brown, the James Taylor Quartet, Soulive, D'Angelo, Tower of Power, Prince and Jamiroquai.

Members: Marcus Rayner, guitar; Martin Ferguson, vocals; Jamie Lynch, bass; Mark Wilkinson, saxophone; Hugh Birkenhead, organ; Paul Hughes, percussion; Dave Sole, drums.

Info: Explains guitarist Marcus: "Groove Cartel is a collaboration of like-minded musicians playing a mixture of original funk and hand-picked gems from the old skool archives."

Formed in January 2005 by Marcus and Hugh, the seven-piece expanded its line-up slowly but surely, and has played at The Jazz Café in Camden and other respected venues across the UK.

The band also returned to the Stamford Riverside Festival this year, and said they were thrilled to have been asked to play at the Peterborough Beer Festival.
