HAMPTON cricket club celebrated the end of the season in style with a family feast of cricket.
The club finished a respectable fourth in Division 4 of the Hunts League, the club's best finish for three years.
At the end of September, the club invited youngsters and their families to the artificial sports pitches in Beaumont Way, Hampton Hargate, for their annual kwik cricket fun day, with a large number of children turning up to take part in the tournament.
Along with a junior competition, there was also a more serious adults competition held on the day, which was eventually won by Peterborough Ladies
And there was also entertainment and other activities for non-competitors, with a barbecue and other stalls open at the ground.
Today, club secretary Tony Gardiner said: "We had a good day, with 36 people getting involved including boys, girls, men and women – from youngsters to grandparents. There were 18 under-13s in the morning and 18 adults for the afternoon.
"All the children received medals for taking part in the day and in the adult competition, the winners were Peterborough Ladies.
"In addition to the cricket, we had a barbecue running and a tombola, with the day raising £130."
The annual player of the year awards are also being held later this month, with a number of prizes available, including the fielder, bowler, batsman and all rounder of the year, as well as the most improved player of the year.
The awards will be handed out on Friday, October 24 at a presentation ceremony.
The club is also continuing to work on its new ground and pitches, which are anticipated to be ready in two years' time, to allow cricket matches to be played in the township.
The club is also preparing for the start of the indoor winter league, a championship it has won in the past, and is looking for more players to join the team, to help it regain the title.
Nets sessions for the team will re-start in February in the new year.
