COMPANY car driver is a light-hearted business feature where we ask a company car driver in the Peterborough area to answer a number of questions on topics of the moment. This week we feature Layth Karagholi, director of Total Displays Ltd.
Q.Do you welcome Barack Obama's victory in the US presidential election?

A. Yes, it will be good to see someone different try and solve the economic issues over there. It will also be nice to hear the end of the election talk and get someone in to get on with the job rather than posturing and making promises. Either way, surely whoever gets in can only be an improvement on George Bush...

Q.What are your views on the Bank of England's interest rate decision last week?

A.I went on to a variable mortgage recently so from a personal perspective the rate cut is welcomed. Also, it makes sense to me not to make it any harder for homeowners right now. It's all bad news with regards cost of living, house prices declining etc, the last thing we need is high interest rates making the issues worse.

Q.Are you trimming your Christmas spending because of the economic situation?

A.I think subconsciously we are, but then my wife generally deals with the Christmas presents so not sure I have a real say in it. There are about 22 of us for Christmas this year so we agreed to a limit of £20 each but I can guarantee that won't be stuck to.

Q.How much will the lower price of petrol/diesel benefit you (your business) a year assuming its stays around 94p a litre (petrol)?

A. I drive a 4x4, and although it's diesel it still isn't as frugal as some cars, so it will definitely affect the cost of my motoring. It was costing more than £110 to fill the tank and now it's nearer £98. It will affect our business too as hopefully the fuel surcharges we are being charged on distribution costs will be dropped at some point.
