COMPANY car man is a light-hearted business feature where we ask a company car driver in the Peterborough area to answer a number of questions. This week we feature Mike Rowling of Monarch Automotive.
Q.The price of oil has started to dip in recent weeks. Would that have any bearing on you if you were thinking of changing your company car?
A.Not really. Although the price of oil has come down, I am sure this will only be short term, whereas changing your company vehicle could be a commitment for three years.
Q. If there was one measure that Gordon brown could introduce to help you in your business working day, what would that be?
A.In my opinion, I would like to see him incentivise more businesses that are working towards reducing their carbon footprint. Not only will this reward the companies that are already reducing their footprint, it will also encourage others.
Q.Will you be glued to the box supporting the Brits at the Beijing Olympics, or are you more interested in China as an economic powerhouse?
A.I'm sure i'll watch some of the Olympics with a very open mind of what goes on. I also believe there will be a lot of expectation for us to do reasonably well, bearing in mind we will be hosting the games in 2012.
I am also very interested in China as an economic powerhouse, as I believe that British businesses should embrace this and use China's dominance to their commercial advantage.
Q. Does the fact that England's new cricket captain is South African bother you?
A.I believe Kevin Pietersen is the best candidate that we have currently as he has the natural flair, ability and self-belief not to let the job affect his game.
He is a joy to watch. We haven't seen a talent like this that is capable of captaining England since Ian Botham, and, let's face it, this only follows in line with other sports such as football (where we are managed by an Italian).
