COMPANY Car Man is a light-hearted ET Business feature where we ask a company car driver in the Peterborough area to answer a number of questions on topics of the moment.
This week we feature the sales and marketing manager of the Queensgate Hotel, in Fletton Avenue, Peterborough, Gan Seta who drives a VW Bora.

Q. Sunday was officially Red Tape Day – with a raft of new legislation coming into force. Do you think there is too much red tape for businesses to cope with or do we need these rules and regulations to improve working conditions?

A. Regulation to improve our lives is a good thing. But, it has to be well thought through.

In my job, I have had to climb mountains of red tape that is plain nonsense. It reminds me of dealing with some third world economies where getting a train ticket or money out from a bank becomes a monumental task.

Britain is at a cross roads – we either sort ourselves out, or we will become the global economy's poor relation.

Q. Ricky and Bianca's return to Albert Square boosted viewing figures for EastEnders to 10.1million people. Were you among them or is this popular soap just too stale and miserable to watch?

A. I am not EastEnders fan, but I can appreciate the fascination of regular viewers for this event. Anything that gets the attention of 10 million people has to be respected.

Q. Peterborough's ambitious plans to transform the city got off the mark with the opening of the Eco Innovation Centre.

Are you confident that Peterborough's regeneration will hit the dizzy heights that the city's movers and shakers are forecasting?

A. In my job at the hotel we have a strong eco plan, however, my experience was neutral in terms of the support given to us.

I've been a citizen of this city for many years and have got excited many times about its growth prospects, only to be disappointed by what really happens.

To my mind, Peterborough needs to be world-class and that needs world-class thinking. Here we fall short. Even so, I am still optimistic that the momentum will build up for the city to be competitive with our more successful neighbours and to bring quality jobs and prosperity to the city.

Q. It was the Grand National on Saturday. Did you be having a flutter – if so which horse or horses were your favourites? If not, why not?

A. It's a big event, and I was very excited. I am not a gambling man – but I did have a flutter on the Grand National.
