Light shed on Posh picture
1960 supporters of posh
THIS jubilant photograph was taken at a Peterborough United game in the 1960s, but we knew little more than that.
Dennis Taylor emailed in to say that he didn’t think this photograph was taken at the Posh ground in London Road.
He said: “I never knew of a building contractor in Peterborough at that time called Hillard Brothers. The ABC system was used to give half time scores and at London Road it was fixed to the front advertising panel along the Moyes End standing area at ground level.”
Peter Lane, a historian who specialises in Peterborough United Football Club, emailed in to tell us more. He said: “I would like to say that the photo was not actually taken at London Road, but at Yeovil when Posh played in the first round of the FA Cup on November 30, 1946.
“The game ended 2-2 in front of 8,000 fans. Posh won the replay 1-0 on December 5, 1946.
“The young man on the bottom left of the picture in the front row is Kim Hart. Kim went on to become a local musician in his own band called The Kim Hart 5.”
How wonderful is this popular feature that we actually have Kim Hart next to comment!
Via email he added: “I remember this because I was a small 8-year-old boy pictured on the front row. Behind me were my parents, Frank and Glory Hart and next to them was Ron Hadnam, Gerry Bird, Percy Scotting and Max Grist.”
