Peterborough, 1920s - Bridge Street, then called Narrow Street. Photo sent in by Adam Bream

TODAY’S trio of pictures show Peterborough city centre in the 1920s.

Sent in by reader Adam Bream, they show Bridge Street as it used to be. It was then called Narrow Street before one side was demolished so it could be widened.

It was home to many independently owned stores. At the end of the street it’s possible to make out The Angel Hotel, which is now WH Smith.

The second photograph (with the Saloon Bar to the right) was taken in 1929 and is a rare shot from the end nearest to where Marks and Spencer currently is.

Finally, the third shows the Waggon & Horses pub which made way for part of Bourges Boulevard.

If you have any further information about today’s pictures, please email me.
