FAMILY history enthusiasts are encouraging people to take up a new hobby for the New Year.
Peterborough Family History Centre, based at the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, in Cottesmore Close, Westwood, runs a free service offering advice and help for people to trace their family tree back through the generations.
It also offers free access to records of births, deaths and marriages in the city dating back to the 1830s.
Eric Dutton, a family history consultant, said that thanks to the television programme Who Do You Think You Are? family geneaology has become the second most popular hobby in the country.
He said: “There is nothing more important than family and it is amazing what you can turn up. It’s like being a detective.”
The centre is open from 10am to 1pm on Wednesdays, 2pm to 5pm on Thursdays and 10am to 1pm on Fridays.
Anyone who would like to find out more about researching their family history is invited to call the centre on 01733 343228 or Mr Dutton on 07745 614033.
