JOBS are set to be created under a multi-million pound plan for another new restaurant in The Hamptons, Peterborough.

The plan to build a Toby Carvery just off the A15 London Road roundabout junction with the Serpentine, follows proposals revealed last week for a KFC restaurant nearby.

The area already has several other food outlets, including Frankie and Bennys and a Harvester Inn.

Plans for the sit-in, Toby Carvery restaurant have been submitted to Peterborough City Council by Mitchells and Butlers, which runs the Toby Carvery chain.

If approved, the restaurant will be the first Toby Carvery in the city.

A spokesman for Toby Carvery said: “A developer has submitted a planning application for the site.

“If planning permission and licensing is granted then we are hopeful of opening a Toby Carvery for our customers to enjoy, as well as creating a number of jobs for local people.”

The spokesman added that most of the company’s restaurants employ between 40 and 50 full and part time workers.

The restaurants specialise in traditional English food such as roast beef, gammon and turkey.

The firm has been running for over 30 years, has 143 restaurants across the country and employs around 4,500 people.

Cllr Nigel North, who represents the Hamptons, said: “The more businesses coming to the Hamptons the better.

“We don’t have a Toby Carvery in the city or nearby at the moment so it would be something different and give people a range of options.”

The Evening Telegraph reported last week how plans to build a KFC restaurant at the site would create around 40 jobs, if approved.

For KFC it will mean the opening of its fourth restaurant in the Peterborough area.

Consultation on the Toby carvery plans will continue until February 13. To comment on the plans, visit www.peterborough.gov.uk or call the council on 01733 747474.

Restaurant plans in Hampton

IF the plans for a Toby Carvery are approved, along with proposals for a KFC alongside it, the Hamptons area of Peterborough will boast a wide range of eating options.

The new restaurants will provide extra competition for Frankie and Bennys, Chiquito and the Harvester Inn.

Their siting in Hampton will provide city diners with a range of fast-food options as well, with McDonald’s situated on the opposite side of the service road and a Burger King in Serpentine Green.

There is also a Premier Inn and a Tesco petrol station nearby, further transforming Hampton into a one-stop shop for visitors to the city.

The proposed new eateries would be situated just off the A15 London Road roundabout junction with the Serpentine, a stone’s throw from Serpentine Green Shopping Centre.
