A YOUTH club in Peterborough has added a splash of colour to its premises after successfully applying to a local decorating company for paint and materials.

Members of Brookside Youth Club have produced a vibrant mural for their home at Brookside Methodist Church, in Gunthorpe Road, following a donation from Dulux Decorator Centres, in Forty Acre Road, Fengate.

The paint and materials were provided as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring The Community scheme after one of the volunteers at the club, which has 25 members, contacted the company for support.

The scheme aims to give a helping hand to local community groups and charities to help them restore their premises, community centres and surrounding areas.

Following the donation, local volunteers and youth club members rolled up their sleeves for the day and got stuck into the work, using regal purple, cherry wine and poppy blue paints to create the design.

One of the volunteers Janet Rich said: “The whole youth club committee was so excited when Dulux Decorator Centres told us that our application for paint had been successful.

“We got to work straight away and chose a bright medley of paints.

“It was great to see the youngsters putting their heart and soul into the painting and decorating and the mural now looks absolutely stunning.”

Colouring The Community was launched in 2000. To date, some £190,000 has been donated to worthy causes, from schools, to animal sanctuaries, churches and charities.

Gary Eversden, manager at Dulux Decorator Centres’ Peterborough store, said: “It is great to see a group of youngsters with so much energy and passion and who want to make a difference to the area they live in.

“The youth club facilities benefit so many people in the local community and the donation will go a long way to ensuring the club can offer as many activities as possible to local residents.”
