Alan Swann: It will be a sad day when Arsene Wenger walks away from Arsenal

IT will be a sad day for English football when Arsene Wenger walks away from Arsenal and the fans of Chelsea and Manchester United should join me in expressing that sentiment.
With Wenger at the helm, we are assured of seeing the prettiest football available south of London Road. With Wenger in charge we are also pretty much guaranteed that Arsenal won't win anything of any significance.

The Frenchman's ego will stop The Gunners taking the Premier League while United and Chelsea are awash with money and more pragmatic managers.

Wenger seems determined to win the Premier League title with talented kids, no decent defenders and a dodgy goalkeeper. All the available evidence evidence suggests otherwise, but Wenger won't budge which is a pity for those of us who love our title races to be close.

By pursuing his current policy, Wenger will continue to frustrate Arsenal fans. The brittle nature of his squad means that for every performance like the one we saw against Manchester United, we will see one like we saw at Stoke.

It will be fascinating to see how long the Arsenal board put up with the lack of major trophies as I'm pretty sure Wenger is not paid a vast sum to provide entertainment at the expense of trophies.

For that reason alone, Sir Alex Ferguson and Big Phil Scolari will lead those who insist Wenger stays in charge.

I'M beginning to believe Harry Redknapp is the new managerial Messiah.

After fluking success against Liverpool and Arsenal in his first few weeks, he's now watched Spurs get outplayed by the nine men of Manchester City and yet still he celebrates a win.

I fear Spurs fans will receive a rude awakening soon. Unless Redknapp really is blessed, his team's luck will soon run out.

ANOTHER weekend and another round of referee abuse from hard of thinking Premier League bosses.

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes blamed Mike Dean for the fact that Gelson Fernandes is clearly an idiot for making two mad challenges in the space of 10 minutes and Newcastle's hilarious interim boss Joe Kinnear blasted Martin Atkinson after his side's defeat at Fulham, even though the Magpies' goal in that game was a yard offside.

I do hope Kinnear keeps the Newcastle job. He's so far out of his depth in the modern game, Newcastle will lose far more than they win thus ensuring his hilarious outbursts will be a regular Monday morning feature.

BEST laugh this weekend though was The People's attempt to link Posh manager Darren Ferguson to the yet-to-be-vacated Manchester City post.

Apparently the filthy-rich Arab owners believe totally in the rumour that race horses will pass on their ability to their offspring. They are therefore convinced that Fergie junior will have inherited his father's genius.

Maybe he has, but if City a) sack their talented manager and then b) appoint anyone other than a proven top-flight boss in his place, I will start supporting Cambridge United.

Who cares about the Ashes next year. Everyones having too much fun watching 20/20. We will see the death of "boring" traditional cricket over the next 3 years... Long live 20/20 and the razzamatazz that comes with it...

"I DO object though to the word 'heroes' when attached to the Olympic medallists as the BBC loved to do when covering their belated victory parade last week.

I don't think swimming a few quick lengths, cycling a few fast laps or messing around on a boat qualifies you for hero status. It's not exactly risk-taking compared to the efforts of our brave boys in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Who was it that penned those words??? LOL!

As a Spurs fan I want to take you to task about your Harry comments, but I fear there may be some truth in what you say. Harry will certainly keep us up, but he has indeed been extremely lucky so far. That said, Ramos was extremely unlucky in the early season and was not as bad a manager as the results suggest.
Harry isn't the messiah (we're not as deluded as Newcastle fans and their unshakeable belief in Keegan)but he is what we need at the moment. I hope our luck continues a bit longer, but I'm also expecting the renewed confidence to enable us to start playing a bit better too.
