A TASTE of continental culture was sampled by a group of Netherton school pupils after they packed into a bus and headed for Spain.
A total of 20 youngsters from Jack Hunt School in Ledbury Road took part in an exchange visit with the Colegio Principado in Asturias, in the north of the country.
It was the third time a visit has been organised to the region which is unspoilt by tourism and has beautiful beaches and mountains.
The children who took part in the exchange had played host to the youngsters from the Colegio Principado in June when they visited Peterborough.
While in Spain Jack Hunt pupils sampled traditional churros and chocolate in Gijón and also visited the City of Oviedo.
They also took the chance to visit a brand new pre-history museum and explore some caves
Spanish teacher Caroline Davis said the school has been visiting the Colegio Principado for the past three years after it forged links with Jack Hunt over the internet.
She said: “The trip was wonderful.
“The children stayed with Spanish families and they were treated so well and were taken to so many places.
“Some of them go back every year and have been asking if they can go again.
“They have made some really good friends in Spain and they e-mail and contact each other on MSN regularly.”
When they visited Peterborough in the summer the Spanish pupils stayed with families of pupils from Jack Hunt.
During their visit they got to sample places such as York, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle, and even went on a day trip to Drayton Manor theme park.
They also had a brief sample of life at the Netherton school.
Jack Hunt pupils not only viewed the trip as a chance to visit another country, but also used it to brush up on their Spanish skills and practice talking in a foreign language.
Headteacher Roy Duncan said “This is a valuable opportunity to promote an understanding of the Spanish language and culture.
“Our pupils have learned a great deal from this link with our partner school in Spain.”
