DRINKERS are being encouraged to leave their lager and pick up a pint of traditional ale at a beer festival.
The Fitzwilliam Arms, in Stamford Road, Marholm, near Peterborough, is holding the Festival of Firsts throughout September in a bid to dispel the myths commonly associated with cask ale.

Over the course of the month, the pub is showcasing four of the most innovative beers to encourage more drinkers to order a pint from the casks.

Landlady of The Fitzwilliam Arms Gemma Burwood said: "With two ales down and two to go, we've had extremely positive feedback from both ale drinkers and those who had never tried it before.

"There are many common misconceptions about ale, but we've certainly proven to our guests through this festival that different beers can have diverse flavours and aromas that people do not expect."
