A CASH award of £1,000 has given a boost to an internet café set up by a city youth group.
The Parnwell Kru was handed the cash by O2 as part of its It's Your Community awards in recognition for setting up an internet cafe for the community in Parnwell.

The cash enabled the group to buy desks, computers, a router, software and a printer, which "really kick-started" the café according to Lisa Masters who helps run the group.

She said: "The young people were so thrilled with the support that this award gave them and I don't just mean financially – It's Your Community is also a recognition for all their hard work.

"This project will have a real community impact for all people within Parnwell and is a testament to the young people of the Kru that they are now wanting to give something back."

Not only does the café give people somewhere to pop in and check their e-mails, it also offers basic IT skill courses and drop-in sessions on how to create a CV, improve language skills and use the internet safely.

The Parnwell Kru is a group of about 30 young people supported by Young Lives, a charity which supports groups working with young people, parents and carers across Cambridgeshire.

O2 is giving away between £100 and £1,000 to community projects.
