Published Date: 22 October 2008
THE ET has been inundated with reports from people in Werrington of a bright "fireball" earlier last night (Wednesday).
The fireball - the second reported in Werrington in little over a fortnight - streaked across the sky at about 6.45pm before suddenly disappearing.

Did anyone else witness it - or capture it on camera?

Tracey-Jaynes Hodgkinson emailed to say: "My friend Chris and I definitely saw this..

"It was a large white glow in the sky.. That shot away way too quickly to be an aircraft, I jusy knew that it wasn't annything that I'd seen before, but coudn't quite understand how it was travelling so quickly relative to the stars.

"Do they generally dissappear up into the atmosphere ? Because that's what I saw?"

Update, Friday, 24 October: The most likely explanation, according to RAF Wittering-based Met Office weather forecaster and keen astronomer Julian Cooke, is that it was an "unusually large" meteor.

Werrington has it all, doesn't it? Not like that New Englund where fireballs streaking the skies translates to firebombs thrown in ethnic violence...

Damn those middle classes in Werrington... If only I could buy a house 1 mile away from my own, I'd be all posh and that.

In answer to the question, No.
