EARLY Christmas shoppers picked up a few festive bargains at a seasonal gift fair held in Northborough at the weekend.
A variety of stalls including books, cookware, cards and giftwrap, art, crafts and handmade jewellery went on sale on Sunday at the village hall.

Organiser Lucille Bingham, of Maxey, had hoped the event could provide a boost to small businesses and independent traders, but said miserable weather meant the turnout was disappointing.

She said: "A lot of businesses are struggling a bit at the moment because of the effects of the credit crunch, so I put the Christmas gift fair together to give us the chance to make a bit of money.

"I think the weather let us down a bit because people probably didn't want to leave the house on a day like Sunday. But those who did come all bought things and the teas, coffees and cakes went down well along with the raffle we organised."

Customers were invited to make donations to charity and the event raised £30 for Children In Need.
