DEDICATION and the ability to stay calm in a crisis has just secured a Peterborough teenager a prestigious award.
Martina Wallis (16) has won the title of Peterborough Regional College's student of the year for her hard work during her NVQ course in business and administration.

The award is sponsored by Peterborough-based Anne Corder Recruitment (ACR).

ACR consultant Claire Latham said: "She handled herself really well. When the technology let her down during the interview she didn't panic, but just made the most of the situation. I'm sure she has a great future ahead of her."

Martina, from Stanground, Peterborough, has now applied for an advanced apprenticeship, available through the college, which would see her working four days a week and studying for a day a week to help her continue to build up her skills, while gaining valuable hands- on experience.

She said: "We had to apply for a made-up office job, go through the interview process and give a presentation to consultants from Anne Corder Recruitment and our tutors.

"It was nerve-wracking but a really useful experience, because we got to practise the skills we'd need for applying for job.

"I'm quite shy and it definitely helped give me more confidence."

ACR, which is based at offices in Park Road, and has a new satellite office at Tyndall Court, Lynch Wood, also announced two runners-up in the awards.

They are Kristy Chanter (17), from New England, Peterborough and Joy Tooley, also 17, from Farcet, near Peterborough.
