Chief executive Terry Huggins and chairman of South Holland District Council, councillor Francis Biggadike have officially opened Spalding's first Travelodge hotel.
The 43-room low-cost hotel represents a £4.1 million investment and has created 15 new jobs.

It is located at Springfields Outlet Centre, in Camel Gate, Spalding, and will offer rooms from £29 per night.

Rooms include a digital flat-screen TV
with 18 channels, Wi-Fi and ensuite facilities.

The new hotel will help to meet what it describes as a “desperate” demand for low-cost accommodation in Spalding.

Mr Biggadike said: “The opening of this hotel will be a major boost for tourism in South Holland.

“Most importantly, it will help to keep visitors in the area for two to three days, spending more money and boosting the economy of South Holland.”

Are your floors tough enough?

BEWARE your office floor loading – that’s the warning to companies from Castor-based chartered structural engineers Brierley & Co.

The firm has been involved with clients who have upgraded computer server rooms in their offices or installed heavy fireproof cabinets on floors that were originally dedsigned for simple office loading of desks and chairs.

Sometimes the loadings from the computer equipment can be very high.

Modern buildings may be able to accommodate the load, but older buildings with timber floors can be a “major problem.”

Don’t neglect insurance rules

SMALL and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the east of England could face crippling claims costs, according to research from business insurer Premierline Direct.

While small business owners may take a calculated risk when starting up their own company, they are leaving themselves wide open to potential massive losses and legal claims by failing to have the right level of business insurance.

The “most worrying” news is that more than a third (33 per cent) of business owners don’t have business insurance at all.

This is despite the fact that nearly half (49 per cent) are concerned about the growing “blame and claim” culture. Of those that do have business insurance, not all are covered for the essentials.

Less than a third of the region’s SMEs have employer’s liability cover, which is compulsory if the company employs anyone.
