Under 17 quartet break a 13 year-old club 4x400m record

PETERBOROUGH Athletic Club's Under 17 women's 4x400m club record fell in the Southern Women's League Senior Division One at Bedford on Saturday.
Gemma Bays, Michelle Longman, Molly Edwards and Bethan Saunders ran 4.29 to take 32 seconds off the 5.03.2 mark set in 1995.

Sharna Emmanuel clocked 12.9 seconds into a stiff headwind for second in the 100m behind Harrow's Olympic representative Laura Turner and the city youngster achieved another fine second in the 200m with an excellent 26.8 seconds.

The 1500m runners, Sarah Caskey and Katy Lee, achieved good points with a pair of second places with times of 5.22.7 and 5.41.0 in the A and B races respectively.

Lee was also second in the A-string triple jump with 9.60m and was backed up well with Nichola Gibson coming second in the B event with 8.91m.

PAC finished in 12th place in the Southern Women's League and will hope to build on this next season.

High jump - A 3 Emma Houghton 1.40; B 2 Emily Moss 1.35.

Long jump - A 3 Emily Moss 4.93; B 2 Gemma Bays 4.24.

Triple jump - A 2 Katy Lee 9.60; B 2 Nichola Gibson 8.91.

Shot - A 3 Emily Moss 9.12; B 4 Jenny Cade 7.80.

Discus - A 4 Jenny Cade 25.84; B 3 Kay Gibson 15.78.

Hammer - A 3 Kay Gibson 20.33; B 2 Jenny Cade 18.16.

Javelin - A 4 Emily Moss 21.58; B 3 Jenny Cade 17.54.

NENE Valley Harriers put up a good display to finish second in their final Southern Women's League Senior Division One match of the season at Kingston.

Club 200m and 400m record-holder Michelle Tweed gave another impressive display when winning the 100m and 400m as well as finishing second in the 200m, and she then rounded off a busy day by running the lead-off leg in the 4x400m.

And Andrea Jenkins once again scored well in the throws, winning the hammer and discus – where Rachel Cook took the B-string – and taking third in the shot.

Jess Jacobs and Cook produced an A and B-string double in the javelin while Georgie Ivens and Lindsey Wilson recorded B-string victories in the 200m and 800m respectively.

Team captain Andrea Page praised the young squad, saying: "This season, which is Nene Valley's second in the Southern Women's League, has seen the athletes continue to grow and benefit from the higher level of competition. This has been shown by a number of club records and personal best.
