ADAM Smith of Peterborough Athletic Club won a bronze medal at the England Athletics Under 17 Combined Event Championships at Birmingham.
The Spalding youngster produced an excellent performance in the decathlon, where his personal best of 5420 points also earned the silver medal in the North of England Championships.
He was naturally over the moon to pick up two medals considering
many of his performances were down on his current form as he carried a slight groin strain into the second day, which he did not wish to aggravate any further.
But his first round discus throw was six metres further than his nearest rival and his final score was 847 points better than he achieved last year.
The only downside was a gremlin in the scoring which meant that medals were awarded to the wrong athletes so Smith was originally credited with fourth place.
After another athlete complained it was looked at again and the medals were then awarded correctly, but this was after the rostrum presentations and photographs had been taken.
Smith's performances: 100m: 12.68; long jump: 5.82; shot: 11.75; high jump: 1.75; 400m: 55.84; 100m hurdles: 15.90; discus: 42.72; pole vault: 3.32; javelin: 33.65; 1500m: 5.10.24.
Stephanie Williams of Peterborough Athletic Club finished 12th in her first ever Under 15 girls pentathlon. She managed a total of 2530 points with an excellent win in the 800m with 2.32.60 and personal bests in the 75m hurdles (13.46) and long jump (5.21). In the high jump she cleared 1.37.
NENE Valley Harriers 400m record-holder Sean Reidy competed twice for Belgrave Harriers over the last week.
Reidy competes for the London club under UK Athletics' higher competition rules and represented them in the 800m at the Rosenheim League Final at Tooting where he finished second in 2.01.8.
Reidy then lined up in the British League Premiership fixture at Barnet, finishing seventh in the 400m hurdles in 55.68. Huntingdon's Neil Speaight ran the B-string 800m in 1.59.7 and also ran the 4x400m relay for Belgrave while two locals were in action for Shaftesbury Barnet.
Hampton athlete Neil Addison was sixth in the 5,000m in 14.48.87 while Deeping's Julian Adeniran placed eighth in the 110m hurdles in 18.37.
A British League Division One fixture was also staged at Barnet with former Peterborough Athletic Club member Ashley Allen finishing fifth for Sheffield in the B-string 5000m in 16.24.5.
