Wendy lands a whopping prize again
WENDY Miller from Coates won the top international rod award at the Ladies Home International Flyfishing championships on the Lake of Monteith, Scotland.
It's the second time Miller has scooped the prestigious prize as she was also victorious in 1999. She couldn't quite help England to top spot as they finished runners-up behind the host nation.
Miller landed nine fish for a total weight of 20lb 6oz to pip England team-mate Hilary Tomlinson to the top individual prize.
Miller said: "I am so chuffed to have won. I didn't catch a thing on the first day of practice and only landed one fish on the second day, but I had spent time looking out for the best areas to fish on match day.
"The match started at 9am and by 9.05 I had my first fish in the boat, a wonderful rainbow trout of 3lb plus. That was a fantastic start to an international.
"My day's catch ended at nine and I was delighted with that although you always assume someone will have done better. Fortunately no-one had."
Miller, an accountant, has been flyfishing for 28 years and is the current chairman of the England Ladies Flyfishing Association.
She has won 21 England caps.
Team result: 1 Scotland 65 fish for 147lb 1oz, 2 England 52 fish for 111lb 2oz, 3 Ireland 39 fish for 86lb 9oz, 4 Wales 31 fish for 68lb 11.5oz.
