ANGLING has long been a good outlet for youngsters to get close to nature and find out about our local countryside along with learning about the art of fishing.
However, very few clubs now have the manpower or indeed the inclination to run events. But there are a couple of local clubs, Ramsey AS and Whittlesey AC, who do run junior events.

Most are through the summer months but the Whittlesey club also have a strong predator junior section and are looking to attract a few more local youngsters to their series of pike matches which get under way this Saturday.

They have three matches in total, all are ACA Pike Championship qualifiers and the club have also managed to get sponsors for the matches and donations from individuals, clubs and tackle shops, so there is a whole host of prizes and fishing vouchers on offer.

They will also be running an adult and junior pairs match at the end of the series on September 27 at Chapel Bridge.

The venues could vary depending on conditions but are expected to be as follows:

Saturday September 6: Queensway sponsored by Hansons.

Saturday September 13: Chapel Bridge sponsored by J and A Carpets.

Saturday September 20: Queensway sponsored by Shelton's Tackle.

For more information please give match organiser Stewart Leonard a call on 077484 37166.
