Smith's meaty approach pays off at Pidley

WHITTLESEY rod John Smith has had a fine series of matches on the Rookery Farm Fishery at Pidley, culminating in a handsome win with a level 100lb.
In wet and very windy conditions Smith fished his favourite meat approach in the margins.
Second place went to Ray Sladden on 69lb 14oz followed by Dave Farrugia on 29lb 15oz.
OUNDLE AC moved off the River Nene to try their luck on the Fen Drains, but unfortunately it did not go to plan at Staffurths Bridge with several anglers failing to trouble the scalesman.
Young Troy Cunnington Junior came out on top with 8lb 9oz. His catch included a tench and a net of small fish.
Second was Steve Tyrell, who also had a tench in his weight of 7lb 5oz. Alan Smith came third on 5lb 12oz.
LEE Covell had to work hard for his victory in the Allsorts AC match on the Beastie Pool at Decoy Lakes.
He started with an up in the water approach, but had to switch to an inside line to keep him ahead of the field and finish on 68lb 4oz.
Second place went to Pete Molesworth Junior with 66lb 2oz and third with 47lb 12oz was Dave Arbon.
KEVIN Lee was well clear in the latest Fenland Rods match on the big carp lake at North View Fishery, Gedney Hill.
Drawn on one of the noted hot pegs he put in a fine display of paste fishing to take a handsome victory with a massive 121lb 4oz.
Second place went to Tim Bates who fished pellet for a level 79lb followed by Kev Bevis on 59lb 8oz.
DEEPING St James AC fished for the Dennis Clark Cup on the small lake at Kingsland Fisheries last weekend and despite most of the field being new to the fishery some good fish and weights were recorded.
George Bates read the water well again fishing pellet over a pellet base to win with 60lb 4oz with fish to 6lb among his catch.
Deeping angler Graham Wright took second place with 33lb 2oz and club stalwart Russell Hole was third with 31lb 14oz.
PLENTY of small fish are filling the nets of those fishing the Tydd Gote matches.
In the Tuesday evening event on the North Level Drain, Dave Parlett came out on top with a net of skimmers and perch for 7lb 8oz. Second place went to John Spalton on 6lb 8oz followed by Bob Fitzjohn with 6lb.
Paul Spriggs was in fine form in Thursday's evening match weighing in 8lb 6oz on the whip and pinkie. Runner-up on a level 6lb was Bob Fitzjohn followed by Dave Parlett.
Sunday's club match on the Main Road section of the North Level Drain saw Mick Asker back in the groove with an excellent 14lb 14oz net of small fish taken on a whip with pinkie over groundbait.
In second place was Colin Gibbons with 11lb 2oz followed by Alan Lemmon with 9lb 14oz.
The Tuesday and Thursday evening draw will take place half an hour earlier at 4.30pm (fishing from 5-8pm) at Main Road.
Sunday's summer league match draw is at noon (fish 1-6pm) also at Main Road.
