I am not sure what the catch record is for Kingsland Silver Pool but I suspect Tony Taylor broke it or at the very least pushed it close in last Sunday's Mill View Tackle club match.
The March rod weighed in a massive 185lb 4oz, taking a net of tench, chub and orfe on the pole with pellet and maggot. Alex Bates took the runner-up spot on 113lb 12oz followed by Paul Irons with 66lb 4oz.
FENLAND Rods found some of the big
ger carp feeding on the Big Carp Pool at Kingsland in their Sunday afternoon/evening encounter.
With very little wind about those that were lucky enough to have a gentle breeze blowing into their pegs had the best of the action.
Kevin Bevis was lucky enough to draw a corner peg and one with a breeze, and he topped the field netting a level 103lb, alternating between pellet and sweetcorn.
The same tactics put Tim Bates into second place on 93lb 6oz followed by James Garner with a level 77lb.
IT was a battle of the giants in the JVAC encounter on the Six Islands pool at Decoy Lakes.
The larger than life Freeman brothers Steve and Martin battled it out for the top spot after drawing a couple of the hot pegs almost opposite each other.
Steve came out on top from fancied peg 11 bagging 109lb 2oz fishing the long pole to one of the islands on corn and pellet.
At times it was a struggle for Martin as the fish refused to feed in the usually productive corner peg.
He worked hard to keep up with the pace but eventually had to settle for second on 83lb 2oz. Third place went to John Preedy with 73lb 2oz.
WITH the lakes at Decoy seeing the vast stock of carp now finished spawning, the top three rods all broke the ton mark in the Saturday open.
Out in front with a massive 151lb 12oz was Van Den Eynde-backed Tony Dawson. He drew peg 17 on the Spit and caught up in the water with pellet.
Result: 1 T. Dawson, VDE, 151lb 12oz; 2 R. Edmundson, Ringer Baits, 129lb 12oz; 3 I. Chestney, Wades MG, 121l 2oz; 4 J. Whincup, VDE, 91lb 12oz.
In Sunday's open on the Beastie Pool it was Chris Barley that took the honours from the early 20s, fishing up in the water with pellet and in the margins on meat and corn to finish on 100lb 12oz.
The in-form Dawson from Huntingdon came second with a level 99lb followed by Ted Sargent with 97lb.
IN Sunday's Ramsey AS club match on the Jay Lake at Pidley, Paul Kilby became the first angler to break into three figures on this relatively new water, netting 103lb 4oz from peg 36 all his fish falling to sweetcorn.
Second place went to his brother Andrew on 77lb 8oz followed by Keith Rayment with 59lb 8oz.
I have most of the local clubs' fixture lists in now but there are still one or two to come so please let me have your list of matches for the coming season as soon as possible.
