WHITTLESEY club Black Bull AC fished Fields End Fishery at Doddington over the weekend with Paul Rayner coming out on top with a level 50lb.
Rayner fished a pole pellet and paste combination to ease ahead of runner-up Terry Moat. The Benwick rod fished similar tactics to the winner putting 35lb 8oz to the scales. John Moore took third place with 31lb 3oz.

LAST Sunday's practice match for round three of the King of the Fens series saw the anglers fishing the Wide Welland at Spalding.

It was nowhere near as good as expected, although the river held a good colour.

Bob Bates took the honours with 8lb 4oz. The Sensas Mark One rod took four eels and a net of skimmers on one of the noted pegs just above the A15 bypass bridge fishing pinkie for the skimmers, chopped worm for eels.

Runner-up was Graham Barry, who had two bream on the feeder for 7lb 2oz followed by Roy Woodward with 5lb 14oz.

This Sunday's round three is scheduled to be fished on the Coronation Channel and Wide Welland but with the Channel in poor form a later decision will be made as to exactly where the pegs are going to be.

ANGLERS from the Whittlesey Angling Club were greeted by ideal conditions for their match at Holloways Bridge and the best action was seen on the two end pegs of the match length. Dave White just took the honours with one tench of 3lb and roach on pinkie and whip to finish with 3lb 12oz.

Runner-up was Roger Biddle with a bream of 3lb and a few perch and roach recording 3lb 11oz. Third place went to Paul Wright with 1lb 10oz of small fish taken on the pole with pinkie.

The junior section of the club fished their fourth aggregate match on the Whittlesey Dyke where the winner was once again Curtis Warner who took 2lb 8oz of small fish on the whip with pinkie.

Second-placed Sam Boon fished the whip to take 2lb of small fish with Jamie Green taking small on the pole for 1lb 6oz.

COCK Inn AC fished the silver fish lake at Kingsland Reservoir with Mick Sidney taking a net of tench on sweetcorn to record 30lb 8oz.

Runner-up was Liz Davids who tempted 8lb of tench on corn. Third place went to Andy Howarth with 7lb 8oz of tench and chub taken on corn.

The overall leader board shows Sidney on 30 points, Dirk Sansby on 19 and Davids on 12.

EVEN the best and productive lakes have an 'off ' day and so it proved on Fenland Rods visit to High Flyer Lakes.

With so much cold water entering the lake over the past week, they all knew it would be hard and more to the point 'patchy' and so it proved.

All credit to James Garner who fished close in to a clump of reeds and managed to catch 81lb of big carp fishing meat. His win was particularly pleasant because he also sat on the golden peg winning £135.

Two weeks ago he lost his new wedding ring when he threw in some bait so he will now be able to buy a new one!

Runner-up was Mel Lutkin with 63lb 8oz followed by Mac Campbell on 50lb 8oz.
