LOCAL angling star and four times world champion Bob Nudd has decided he will not be representing England in this summer's Veterans World Championships in Portugal.
National Federation of Anglers international events director Dick Clegg, who had Nudd at the top of his teamsheet, was not happy.

"I'm not best pleased," said Clegg. "I can't believe that someone who can find three weeks a year to fish in Ireland
and here, there and everywhere can't find a week free to fish for England and help the people and organisations that have helped him get where he is."

Nudd, who lives in March, said: "I'd love to have fished it but I've got so many other commitments, something had to give."

Nudd will, however, be the star attraction once again at this year's Tacklefest to be held on the city embankment on July 12 and 13.

It's the weekend anglers across East Anglia have been waiting for and this year they won't be disappointed.

There should be something for everyone from celebrity spotting to free coaching for the kids, demonstrations to live music and not forgetting the Angling Times Team Championship final which will see some of the best names in fishing battle it out to be crowned 'the best team in the land'.

The Improve Your Coarse Fishing live demonstration pool will be one of the highlights of the event with Nudd on hand to answer burning questions as well as revealing some top tips. He will be demonstrating on both days as well as hosting the demo pool three times a day.

If it's gear you're after there should be plenty on offer with over 35 exhibitors there to cater for your every need.

The Angling Times Team Championship reaches its climax on the Sunday of the event, when the country's best teams go head to head on Peterborough's River Nene.

The match, often referred to as the FA Cup of match fishing, will feature the biggest names on the UK match scene with the likes of England stars William Raison, Steve Gardener and Alan Scotthorne lining up.

The match will get underway at 11am with the champions being announced at around 6pm and it is free for visitors to come along and watch.

Tacklefest is a weekend not to be missed so clear your diary and get yourself down to this year's summer spectacular.

Visit www.tacklefest.co.uk, or call 01733 468454 today to save £1 on your entry!

As an added bonus I have 10 pairs of tickets to give away if you can answer one simple question which is:

On which date does the Angling Times Team Championship Final take place?

Please send your entries by June 16 to Ken Wade, 247 High St, Old Fletton, Peterborough, PE2 9EH.

MARVE83,

PETERBOROUGH 06/06/2008 07:32:27
Dear All,
I managed to hit one of our local fisheries on sat 31st of May THE RAILWAY LAKES at Whittlesey, to be blown away at the weather and the fish cruising around sadly to busy spawning and cruising to feed, BUT.
Having read stories about ROD LICENCES not being bought i was rather surprised to see a NRA Baliff doing the rounds after me and my little brother showed our licences to fish the baliff moved on to the next fishermen a group of 4 teenagers who firstly gave him a fake address then proceeded to argue about not needing a licence at all.
My understanding is that a fine should be imposed straight away not give chances or try to arrange deals with the offender?, had it been me then now doubt my tackle would be confiscated and fined on the spot.
They had a licence from 2007 and so knew that had to have a licence, as far as i am concerned two chances or should i say failures to baffle the baliff is enough but hey i am after all just a licence payer.
