The NFA Individual National Championship takes place on Saturday on the River Nene, downstream of Peterborough where 150 anglers are expected to compete in the invitation-only event.
Anglers have qualified through being the top two point scorers within their team at the divisional nationals and also section winners from the ladies and veterans national championships.

There is quite a lot of local interest as several of our best anglers are taking part.

Local anglers believe the match will come down to the number of bream caught although there are also good shoals of roach and perch to influence the result.

The river has now gone very clear so the fishing will not be that good and those that are patient and can sit it out on the tip for a few bites could well come up trumps.

The draw takes place at 8.30am at Peterborough Indoor Bowls Club, Burton Street, Peterborough, PE1 5HA.

Following the draw the competitors will then head for their sections and fishing will take place between 11am and 4pm.

GREBE AC returned to the popular Dents of Hilgay Farm Shop Lake for their second visit this year.

This 100 year-old mixed fishery is a real favourite due to the multitude of different tactics that can be deployed. Roach, rudd, tench, crucians, skimmer bream and carp to 25lb can all be specifically targeted to win matches with pellet usually chosen as the main attack bait.

All was to fish for in this last match of Grebe's Summer League with Trevor Dew, Ron Gilbert and Jon Wilson all in with a chance of winning the series.

Wilson was pegged down the main match length, Gilbert round the back which he favours for targeting the large carp late on and Dew on the reasonable but unfancied and very secluded peg 30.

At the whistle Wilson was soon in to crucian carp alternating between two pellet swims. Gilbert was also having early success with a mixture of small carp and skimmers.

After the first hour Dew had just one rudd in his net but was determined to persevere on his chopped worm attack.

In the second hour the skimmer bream found his worm bait and he steadily started to catch.

Wilson had also managed to keep his two-swim pellet attack going for most of the match and at the weigh-in had amassed a very respectable 55lb. The big carp had eluded Gilbert this time but he still did well winning his section with 41lb.

The surprise result came when Dew was weighed in. Using 0.5kg of worms he had managed to catch 58lb 8oz of skimmers to win the match and summer series. Runner-up was Wilson followed by Gilbert who took third place.
