THE Peterborough Nene League finished at the weekend with the Sensas Mark One team rounding off a fine series with yet another match win which in fact gave them a clean sweep of matches.
They even had the added pleasure of seeing skipper John Bates take the top individual honours with 9lb 10oz.
Bates drew just above the railway bridge at Stibbington and after a fruitless hour looking for the resident chub, he gave up in favour of a short whip and fished for bleak.
By the final whistle he had whipped the water to a foam, taking more than 300 fish.
Runner-up was Darren Page, who had a tench and together with a net of eels finished on 9lb 3oz.
In third place with 8lb 15oz was Steve Goodrum.
There should be a much better turnout for this weekend's Nene Team Championship.
Quite a few of our local sides decided not to fish the summer league for several reasons.
But as we head towards the first round of the Angling Times Team Championship on the Nene I have a feeling those that have not fished the river this season will want to get up to speed fairly quickly now.
It's not too late to put a team in, just give match organiser Steve Goodrum a call on 07749921798 for all the details.
SOME big fish action was expected at Halfpenny Toll in last weekend's Ramsey AS club match but unfortunately just a couple of small tench showed.
Top rod with 8lb 11 oz was Andrew Rayment. He fished a short pole line taking a small tench, two big rudd and a net of small skimmers and roach.
In second place was Andrew Kilby on 7lb 3oz, followed by Harry Young with 6lb 14oz.
WITH quite a few competitors lined up to fish the JVAC match, organisers decided to split the match between the Four Islands and Lou's Pool at Decoy Lakes.
Surprisingly Four Islands did not fish that well with Dave Parsons taking first place with a modest 32lb 7oz.
Second place on this pool was Andy Gausden who had 27lb 9oz.
It was a different story on Lou's with some very respectable weights taken topped by Chris Baldwin on 97lb 8oz. Runner-up with a level 60lb was John Preedy.
Dave Parsons and Rob Goodson took the pairs event with a total of four points.
YET another club getting a good turnout last weekend was Allsorts.
They too were on the Decoy Lakes complex on the Elm Pool.
Taking his second victory at Decoy was John Parnell, who fished a pellet and paste approach close in for 53lb 8oz.
Second place went to Carl Stones, who used a variety of hook baits to keep the carp on the feed finishing with 51lb 4oz.
Third place went to Paul Dotchin on 49lb 12oz.
This match was also a pairs event and John Parnell struck up a winning combination with Richard Linnell. They had a combined winning weight of 79lb.
CONDITIONS looked ideal for those anglers fishing the Whittlesey club match on the Twenty Foot Drain along the Popular Tree section.
Unfortunately no-one told the fish and it was left to John Hudson to take the honours with a net of small fish taken on the pole with pinkie over a little groundbait, weighing in 3lb 12oz.
Runner-up with 3lb 8oz was Paul Wright.
