IT is busy time of the year for the Ramsey Angling Club.
On Thursday evening they were on the Factory Bank where those after big fish took all the top prizes.

Out in front was Adrian Wilde, who had a good tench together with some small fish for 6lb 6oz.

Runner-up was Paul Kilby on 5lb 13oz and his
catch included a decent bream. Then came Roger Gowler on 5lb 3oz.

Saturday saw a junior match on the same venue, where they found it tough going but all managed a few fish.

Top rod was young Tony Wagstaff with 1lb 3½oz followed by Chester Hobbs with 14oz and third with 13½oz was Micheal Wagstaff.

The venue for Sunday's open was the Forty Foot and like many other fisheries around the area very few roach showed up.

Andrew Kilby came out on top with a net of tench and eels for 6lb 7oz. Second place went to Ivan Steels with 5lb 10 oz followed by Vern Edgley on 5lb 8oz.

THERE can't be many better anglers around the country fishing pellet up in the water than John Whincup, who rounded off a fine weekend at Decoy Lakes winning two matches in a row at his favourite venue.

This match saw him bagging 135lb 8oz from unfancied peg 18 on the Beastie Pool. Fishing the long pole line at 14½ metres, the Van den Eynde rod produced a stunning performance outscoring a small but very competitive field.

Result: 1 J. Whincup, VDE, 135lb 8oz; 2 S. Smart, Ringer Baits, 106lb; 3 I. Chestney, Wades MG, 92lb 8oz; 4= J. Smalley, March and C. Barley, Bag Em, both 80lb 8oz.

Decoy Lakes Opens
Beastie Lake, Tuesday: 1 G. Barron, Peterborough, 90lb 8oz; 2 K. Wadge, Decoy, 88lb 14oz; 3 M. Perkins, Dynamite Baits, 72lb; 4 P. Ogilvie, 66lb 8oz.

Cedar Lake, Saturday: 1 J. Whincup, VDE, 130lb 8oz; 2 M. Freeman, JVAC, 117lb 8oz; 3 G. Butler, Sensas Mark One, 112lb 12oz; 4 B. Mason, Ringer Baits, 103lb 8oz.

FLOODS Ferry was the venue for the lads from Benwick AC with Terry Fairbrother taking the top spot with three tench and a net of small fish to weigh in 13lb 5oz.

Runner-up was John Seekins, who tempted a tench and three bream for 10lb 11oz. Third place went to Tony Ingram with 8lb 9oz followed by Kevin Gaunt with 7lb 1oz.

SPORT was poor for the Black Bull lads who fished the big lake at Kingsland Reservoir.

Gary Cranwell took the honours with just two carp for 26lb 5oz. Runner-up was Alan Reid weighing in 2lb 9oz with Pete Whitwell third on 6lb 9oz.

ON the trout scene and boat anglers have fared best recently at Rutland Water out in front of the fishing lodge right down towards the dam.

Season ticket holders John Batter from Hemingford Grey and Gordon Alleyne of Wansford had 19 fish on catch and release.

Grafham Water is back in top form for both bank and boat anglers with the majority of trout being taken in the top three to four feet of the surface on small nymphs or small lures. Most trout taken have been feeding on pin fry from around the margins and the central areas of the reservoir. The best bank areas have been Gaynes Cove, south dam and the sludge bank with anglers catching trout on small lures and nymphs.
