For Local Newspaper Week 2008, we take you behind the scenes at your local newspaper.
Matthew Moore is our newspaper sales director, and came to The ET fresh from the Daily Mail's sales department, so he knows a thing or two about flogging papers.
But what does his team actually do?
Matt explains: "The newspaper sales department has a number of key roles to play. Firstly and most importantly it is our job to ensure that the news- paper is printed and distributed on time and available for r
eaders to pick up their copy.
"One of the most difficult aspects is ensuring that each retailer has enough copies while not printing too many and having copies left unsold. This becomes especially tricky when reacting to a strong news story or promotion.
"The direct delivery team are responsible for more than 200 delivery agents who take copies of The ET to more than 6,000 homes every evening. More than 30 per cent of The ET's sale is through direct delivery."
Matt is also in charge of the promotions team. Their role is to source reader offers and competitions that are attractive and encourage people to buy a copy.
