SUPER slimmer Harry Stirk has cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats for charity.
Harry, 39, of Beeston, is half the man he used to be. He once broke three settees and cracked a double bed when he weighed 24 stones.
Now after getting fit by cycling hundreds of miles every week on his bike he has successfully made the thousand mile solo trip.
He is now collecting in sponsorship cash for Cancer Research Campaign and hopes to raise hundreds of pounds after his uncle Philip Jackson died from lung cancer last year.
Now weighing 12 stone, 5ft 6in Harry, made the trek over four weeks, stopping off with relatives and staying at B&Bs and pubs.
He said: "It was very tiring but my legs have really toughened up and are very muscley. I was constantly on the go. I did around 60 miles a day. In fact I almost have a six pack.
"The scenery in Scotland was beautiful, but the steep drops at the side of tiny mountain paths were a bit hair raising. Some were around 200ft.
Halfords loaned me a bike for the trip so I had special gel filled tyres to avoid punctures. That really helped as I would have had loads."
After going on a strict diet to lose the flab 18 months ago after being dumped by his girlfriend for being too fat he started cycling. Harry soon found people stopping him in the street to ask his advice. He became a 'diet guru' for local women, with his tips about healthy eating and drinking Chinese green tea.
As an unfit heavyweight he broke beds, settees and chairs as he lived on an unhealthy diet of fast food takeaways and junk food, hardly moving from his chair. Once he devoured most of a 25lb turkey at Christmas, leaving only scraps for his parents.
He couldn't even manage a short walk without collapsing. But after a gruelling exercise routine, which can see him pedal more than 100 miles a day on his bike, regular visits to the gym and nothing but healthy eating, he now takes size small instead of XXXL in T-shirts. At his biggest, Harry's chest measurement of 72in was more than his height."
Anyone who can help or wants to make a donation to Harry's fund should contact Alison Bellamy at the YEP on 0113 243 2701 ext 1277.
