1st: BAN on smoking in virtually all enclosed public places started today.
Pubs, clubs and restaurants in Peterborough and surrounding towns and villages fell into line as expected.

Some pubs installed a new outdoor area and heaters to encourage smokers to come to their establishments and have a pint and an open air cigarette.

12th: THERE were tears and tributes after popular headteacher Jed Holmes was
found dead in his city home.

Distressed children made a pilgrimage to Hampton Hargate Primary School clutching bouquets of flowers, messages of condolence and even a cuddly toy to pay homage to their head, Jed Holmes.

A coroner ruled that Mr Holmes had killed himself after a barbecue at his home in Welbourne, Werrington, Peterborough, the day before
Government inspectors were due to arrive at the school.

20th: IT'S the dream of every football fan in the country – to lead out their team before a big match, and one 11-year-old girl did just that.

Tiffany Dolby won a competition to be the mascot for Peterborough United in their big testimonial match against the mighty Liverpool.

Tiffany, who has been brought up to be a Posh fan by her mum, Amanda, said: "I am really excited. I was so surprised to hear that I won. I still can't believe it."

25th: THE ambulance service praised a five-year-old girl who called them to save her mum's life.

Keeping calm, Alicia Harrold dialled 999 and asked for an ambulance when her mum collapsed with a severe epileptic fit.

Alicia had remembered what her brother Mark (19) had done in a previous emergency when her mother Samantha was taken ill at their home in South Street, Stanground, Peterborough.

Alicia's call sparked a drama however when she could not remember her address, and BT technicians had to trace the call. Fortunately, paramedics got there in time to save the day.
